Why You Shouldn’t Miss Your Dental Exam and Cleaning

Even regular home dental care hygiene cannot prevent the formation of cavities and onset of decay. The toothbrush bristles cannot access every area of the oral cavity.

A routine dental exam can be completed in 10-15 minutes and consists of the following procedures:

Visual Exam

We will examine your teeth for decay, cavities, misaligned, chipped, or cracked teeth. If necessary, we may recommend diagnostic x-rays or digital imaging to get a clearer view of hidden cavities or abscesses.

Oral Cancer Screening

Our dentist in Fort Saskatchewan, AB will visually examine your lips, cheeks, the underside of your tongue, roof of the palate, face, and neck for signs of abnormalities that could indicate oral cancer.

Screening for Gum Disease

Any redness, bleeding, soreness, or loose teeth could indicate gum disease. Depending on the progress of the infection, we may perform scaling and root planing treatment or prescribe antibiotics to restore gum health.

Once Dr. Navjot Sodhi completes the exam, the dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth.

What Happens During Dental Cleaning?

Dental cleaning at Town Crest Dental Clinic usually takes between 30 minutes to one hour to complete. We settle the patient in a comfortable chair and proceed to eliminate plaque, tartar, and stains on your teeth. If ignored, plaque and tartar build-up can lead to cavities and decay.

We use manual instruments to scrape off stubborn plaque deposits from tooth surfaces (both front and rear). The ultrasound instruments help scrape off large deposits of tartar. This process is known as ‘scaling.’ We will then polish the teeth to make the surface smooth and shiny.
